Mystic Resistance with Lucile Scott and Victoria Libertore
October 28 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm EDT
Do spirituality and politics go together? Abso-f***-ing-lutely. Two years ago, an astrologer told author Lucile Scott that in 2020 we would either begin transitioning into a 2,000 year period of matriarchy or chaos, communal peace and love or tribal fear and loathing. And here we are in 2020, and this reading of the stars seems right on point. Mustering the force we need to heal this planet and change the cultural tide from crashing into its own doom through white supremacy and patriarchy into a torrent flowing towards revolution and true liberation for all will require the strength and shifts in perception brought by mystic resistance.
An American Covenant is Lucile Scott’s new book that weaves us through a history of mystic resistance and liberation and of five women who transcended the expected to transform America. For centuries, women who emerge as mystic leaders have played vital roles in American culture. For just as long, they’ve been subjugated and ridiculed. Today, women and others across the nation are once again turning to their mystic powers to #HexThePatriarchy and help fight the forces that seem bent on relegating them to second-class citizenry. Amid this tumult, Lucile Scott looks to the past and the stories of five women over three centuries to form an ancestral spiritual coven: Marie Laveau, the Voodoo Queen of New Orleans; Cora L. V. Scott, nineteenth-century Spiritualist superstar; Helena Blavatsky, mother of Theosophy; Zsuzsanna Budapest, feminist witch and founder of Dianic Wicca; and Marianne Williamson, presidential candidate and preacher of the New Age Gospel of Love. Each, in their own ways, defied masculine preconceptions about power.
Join Lucile & Victoria six days before the presidential election to create our own impromptu coven and tap into this force. Together we will pray, canoodle (energetically for soothing), call on spiritual support, walk you through creating your own mystic coven of people present and past to support you, do some guided meditation to ground, lift up, connect with guides, and set personal and collective intentions for resistance. We’ll also talk with Lucile about her new book, An American Covenant, and how these five mystical women in history inspire her to keep on keeping’ on. Remember resistance for you can look very different than it does for somebody else. Let’s discover what your empowered mystic resistance looks like.
A scathing queer feminist history and a personal quest for transcendence, An American Covenant opens our eyes to the paths forged by women who inspired the nation in their own times—and who will no longer be forgotten or silenced in ours.
