The world is coming back to life, and as the Spring Equinox approaches, why not take advantage of this bright new energy that is awakening? There are countless ways to use this springtime energy to manifest abundance, joy, and comfort within your life, all you need is the right medium to conjure with! Here are three spells for the Spring Equinox that are perfect for any sort of witch!

Spring Cleaning: Witch Style

Everyone knows those witchy stereotypes about women flying around on broomsticks. The media plays with this image frequently– sometimes, they even swap out those broomsticks with vacuum cleaners or mops! Regardless, the broomstick is a powerful symbol of witchcraft! Even your old plastic broom can be used to cast spells if you know what to do. For the Spring Equinox, you can use a broom to cleanse your entire house, both physically and spiritually! Here’s what you’ll need:

  • A broom
  • A space you wish to cleanse
  • A bell, windchime— any small musical charm you can tie to the end of your broom!

Tie the bell you have procured around the end of your broom. Begin sweeping the space you wish to cleanse with the broom, making rhythmic to-and-fro motions that can summon the bell’s chime. Visualize that as you sweep the dust in your space that the bell is also sweeping away any stagnant, negative energy that may be lingering where you cannot see or feel it. Sweep all of the dust to your front door (or into a dustpan). Then, to finish the ritual, toss all of the dust out of your space into the open air and let the wind dissipate it! With all that dust will go your stress, worries, and anxieties.

Bonfire for the spring equinox

Springtime Bonfire

A lot of witchcraft involves parties, in a way. Covens are the most reputable example of this concept; witches gather together in droves to make merry, eat, cook, and cast spells to summon the energy they wish to share in their lives. With this in mind, it may interest you to know that many covens often create bonfires for these occasions! Bonfires are an excellent way to harness the fire element’s power, often used in witchcraft to release negative energy or beckon positive vibes. For this spring equinox, consider making your own bonfire spell! For this, you will need:

  • A safe open space, either a fire pit or a campsite with a set bonfire area. Beaches, fields, and parking lots can also work, so long as you have legal access to them!
  • Enough wood to build your bonfire.
  • Bay leaves
  • Pens or markers— something to write on the bay leaves with!
  • Invite some friends to share the good vibes and manifest together!

Gather in your chosen safe space with your favorite people and set up your bonfire. I recommend watching a video or looking up a tutorial to guide you safely through this process unless one of your buddies is a fire-making expert! Once your fire is up and roaring, sit around the bonfire and take a bay leaf. Write a specific wish you want to come true on the bay leaf. This can be a promotion, a want for a new romance, a raise— anything you wish to manifest within the year, write it on the bay leaf.

Once your manifestation is ready, toss the bay leaf into the fire. As it burns, imagine that your wish is being released into the universe, and believe that you will gain the result within the year. Now you can spend the rest of the night dancing and hanging around your bonfire with your loved ones!

Salt to Salt: Protection for Spring

Salt is the purest of a witch’s ingredients. Sea salt, black salt, pink salt— each possesses a slightly different ability, but all promise to protect their user however it is used. If you want to protect yourself using the energy of the Spring Equinox, consider making a salt bowl! Salt bowls combine various herbs and energies that can be placed anywhere in your living space to protect your energy. What you’ll need for this spell is:

  • A white or black candle
  • Sea salt
  • Black salt
  • Oregano or dill for luck and protection
  • Lavender for protection
  • Sage or chamomile for prosperity
  • Instant Coffee to beckon this good energy quickly
  • A bowl or chalice
  • Something to stir the herbs with

Gather all your needed materials. First, pour your salts into the bowl to ensure the bowl doesn’t overflow but is also deep enough to hold the other herbs. Sprinkle in your herbs one at a time, speaking their name and purpose as you do. Stir the herbs into the salt three times clockwise to activate their abilities. Now, sprinkle in your instant coffee and stir three times clockwise again.

With your herbs incorporated, now you can place your candle in the center. There should be enough salt that the candle can stand without falling. Light the candle whenever you wish to activate the bowl— I usually light it at the end of the day while I wind down! When you wish to, snuff the candle to save the rest of it for another day. You can relight this spell whenever you wish!
