On Tuesday, July 14th, join Charlotte James and Urea Wright, creators of The Sabina Project, for a virtual workshop about rapé (pronounced ha-peh), also known as Sacred Tobacco. The Sabina Project’s mission is to cultivate a “healing presence and inclusive space for all modern journeyers. We do this by integrating ancestral plant medicine wisdom into global conscious communities, as well as providing online and in-person opportunities for learning that support radical self transformation and community liberation.” Sign up for their workshop here!

Charlotte has been a harm reductionist and psychedelic explorer for over 10 years, but her path through this work has certainly not been linear. After leaving harm reduction years ago because of rapid burn out, she is returning to this work with a new energy – thanks to the power of healing with plant medicines.

Undrea Wright has been working to heal himself with sacred medicines for over 11 years. He is a cannabis entrepreneur that was instrumental in the decriminalization and medical bill pass in Maryland. He has a focus on equity and inclusion in all healing work and communities. Dre practices in the Traditional Amazonian ways, informed by the South American Shipibo-Conibo and Quechua-Lamista lineages, having trained with various global indigenous masters.

Tell us a little bit about The Sabina Project! How did you come to create it? What is your mission?

TSP has been created through us as a platform for education, training, and harm reduction of Sacred Earth Medicines. Our focus is to return reverence to our ancestral traditions. We are committed to ensuring equity and inclusion, and safe practice of the tradition, tools, and technologies.

For Charlotte: Can you tell us a little bit about your work as a harm reductionist and psychedelic explorer?

Charlotte: I started volunteering at a needle exchange and overdose prevention site in high school and went full steam ahead into that world through college, which led me to a quick and early burn out. I had zero self-care practices in place, and at the same time was recreationally exploring psychedelics with no road map for harm reduction in that space. After stepping away for years, I am coming back to this work with a renewed sense of self, thanks to sacred plant medicine integration.

Dre: Can you tell us about your decriminalization efforts? How can people get involved or support?

I served as co-founder of Maryland Cannabis Policy Coalition (MCPC), which is now run by the ACLU and MPP. I am also the Former Vice President, and re-founder of Maryland NORML, and co-refounded and currently serve as Chair of Maryland Americans for Safe Access (ASA).

If you could have tea with one person living or dead, who? And what kind of tea?

Dre: I would have tea with the name I had before my parents were born. The tea would be Ayahuasca

Charlotte: I would have ginger tea with Queen Nanny (my newest historical obsession), and get a lesson in herbalism and machete wielding against White Supremacy.

What is one thing you’d like our readership to know about your work that I may not know to ask you about?

Dre: For me, this work is for the purpose of Radical Self Transformation (RST). Sacred Earth medicines are our teachers, allies, and guides. If we don’t develop relationships with these Earth Medicines they will sever their relationship with us. Don’t take these relationships for granted they are our relatives. Focus less on having experience and more on healing yourself, and then the world.

Charlotte: All of that plus I’d like to add that you are welcome to show up to this work as you are. It doesn’t matter if you started your journey recreationally, through recovery work, or because you were “looking for an experience”. It is never too late to develop a spiritual and sacred relationship to Earth Medicines, and to create ceremony out of your life.

What do you hope to see in the future of The Psychedelic Movement?

Accessibility and affordability for all people, not just the privileged.

An end to prohibition and the war on all “drugs”.

Sun/Rising/Moon Signs?

Dre: Leo/Sagittarius/Aries

Charlotte: I only know my main sign is Virgo. From what I know, this response is very Virgo (lol).
